STRETCH THERAPY

Stretch Therapy is a series of dynamic, static, passive and active poses customised for you to attaining length and movement of your muscles and joints in daily activities and recovery from injuries. This is a form of rehabilitation, focusing on the fascia (soft tissue) and joint capsules as a key element in achieving optimal mobility, strength, performance and pain relief.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a network of layered connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones and joints. A joint capsule is also a connective tissue structure that surrounds joints and is involved in optimizing the mechanical function of the joint as well as gives it nutrients. When the fascia and joint capsules are restricted it can cause:

  • Decreased joint space which can lead to degenerative joint diseases and osteoarthritis
  • Increased muscle tone which can lead to trigger points, strains, tendonitis and tears
  • Increased nervous tissue tone which can lead to headaches, trigger points and muscle tightness
  • Increased scar tissue formation
  • Decreased blood flow and energy levels, and much more

What we offer

At Massage Movement Wellbeing we offer Stretch Therapy in a number of different ways, one on one consultations which will involve an assessment, appropriate correction treatment and customised stretches for rehabilitation.

Our Stretch Therapist has designed some stretch classes that are small in number to allow for attention to participants and individual correction throughout. These are progressive in design and will require attendance to the full duration of the course for optimal results. Read below for further descriptions on each class option:


Stretch The Boundaries

The Stretch The Boundaries class is where restrictions are unwound and range of motion is regained designed to suit every body. It applies scientifically researched methods to create a class that is effective, safe and results driven. Not bound in tradition it has combined effective techniques from around the world. Part yoga, part gymnastics and part martial arts, Stretch The Boundaries is continually evolving.

A typical class will include limbering techniques to prepare the body for advanced stretching techniques. Reflexes within the body are utilised to achieve the best results, including reciprocal inhibition, contract and relax and the apprehension reflex. Partner stretching is often incorporated to provide a nurturing environment and effective outcomes. Self massage techniques are used to release any adhesions, and joint mobility exercises ensure lasting results.

Playful Primate

The Playful Primate class is where we apply joint mobility and control to movement practice. We activate muscles to control full range of movement and then integrate this in to a broader movement pattern. Always keeping quality of movement as our guide, this movement class is designed to give you greater control (and as a result you can go harder, faster and stronger).

In this class we take your mobility gains and apply them to movement patterns. We regain the movement that came so freely as a child through rebuilding the strength to control your body. We explore movement in a fun and effective way, identifying dysfunctional patterns, and apply the appropriate corrective approach.

The class begins with joint mobilisation to prepare the body for the work ahead. We break the movement down to its most basic state and then progress through a series of activation exercises. By using quality as our measure, we gradually progress through more complex movements, ensuring you are working at the correct level.
